PRIMARY FUNCTION:

As a member of the Center for Technology and Society (CTS) team, the Associate Director of Advocacy and Partnerships (Associate Director) will be responsible for translating CTS’ research into impact through advocacy campaigns and by building and leveraging new partnerships. The Associate Director will  work cross-functionally at ADL on crafting strategies for advancing ADL’s tech and society agenda. The Associate Director will play a lead role in maintaining and strengthening CTS’ relationships with civil society groups and coalitions and by building relationships in local communities across the US through ADL’s network of regional offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary:

  • Build and manage relationships with tech policy stakeholders (civil society, industry, advertisers, government) to advance ADL’s tech and society agenda–especially issues of shared interest.
  • Implement strategy regarding new or existing leverage points to push tech companies to do more to fight hate, harassment, and extremism.
  • Work with cross-functional ADL partners on strategies to advance CTS’s work, including collaborating with ADL’s network of regional offices.
  • Organize and activate long term public pressure campaigns (such as Stop Hate for Profit), conference attendance, and other public-facing CTS efforts.
  • Create an organized and systematic approach to outreach and relationship management.

Secondary:

  • Contribute to strategy for leveraging existing channels (press, social, events) to elevate CTS impact.
  • Deliver presentations to donors, policy makers, researchers, internal ADL staff and other relevant stakeholders
  • Focus on impact measurement to determine the most effective methods for CTS to advance our mission

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including public speaking
  • A demonstrated knowledge of tech and social media platforms and issues.
  • A demonstrated interest in technology and its impact on society.
  • Proven track record of driving successful multi-stakeholder projects to completion.
  • A curious, energetic, respectful and collaborative working style.

Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has several years’ work experience with a demonstrable progression in skills and responsibility in advocacy, strategy, and/or organizing for corporate accountability in either the private or public sectors.
  • Experience engaging stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and perspectives around common concerns and building meaningful and effective partnerships.
  • Experience advocating with and for marginalized or underrepresented communities.
  • Organizing and coalition building experience; experience managing conference attendance is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:

This position has a salary range of $50,000 to $96,000. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
