The Development and Operations Director (DOD) will work closely with the Executive Director to lead OpenArchive’s operational and administrative success. The DOD will undertake various tasks to lead our team’s operations, administrative needs, project management, and fundraising portfolio. This is a full-time, 1.5-year contract position with area knowledge of human rights archiving. We are seeking candidates who could begin work in June of 2024.

The DOD’s work largely falls within three buckets of work:

  • Operations: Including strategy planning, organizational budget management, managing, organizing, and maintaining spreadsheets and Google Drive folders, coordinating board activities, booking travel, researching conferences, and organizational calendar management.
  • Project Management: Including project tracking, project budget tracking, ensuring milestones are met, working with the Program Director, and managing programmatic and technical timelines.
  • Fundraising and Grant Management: Including researching potential funding opportunities, drafting proposals, managing deadlines, and managing active awards.

OpenArchive is an experienced research and development nonprofit organization dedicated to the ethical collection and long-term preservation of mobile media. We work to promote freedom of expression and privacy on the internet by creating tools, guides, and workshops to protect human rights defenders and their media. Our work centers both large human rights focused NGOs as well as activist communities, researchers, designers, developers, academic institutions, and advocates to create and share best practices in order to advance secure, long-term mobile media preservation and internet freedom for marginalized and targeted communities.
